Ostensibly a pattern book, The Ohio Knitting Mills Knitting Book is also a cultural and industrial history about the Cleveland textile industry and twentieth-century knitwear fashion. All patterns are culled from the archives of the Ohio Knitting Mills, one of the largest producers of knitwear when Cleveland was one of the biggest textile hubs in the country.
I was hired to research and write about the Mills and Cleveland’s textile industry, as well as the provenance and development of each sweater and how their designs reflected larger cultural trends.
